Rudolf Herick

Portfolio manager at Vattenfall Trading Services in Hamburg.

How would you describe your typical day at work?

As a portfolio manager, I take care of energy portfolios for industrial clients or municipalities. A typical working day starts with a price check of all the commodity markets that affect the energy market, for example coal or oil. At 7:40, I participate in the daily morning meeting with our analysts, traders and portfolio managers in Hamburg. Our colleagues in Stockholm give us an update on the Nordic market via video conference – all in all, there are about 30 people in the meeting. With this information in mind, I manage our customers’ portfolios and trade on their behalf or give them advice.

Why did you choose to work with customer issues?

I am committed to introducing our customers to the energy market in Europe. I find it challenging to explain the complex interdependence of the energy market to our customers: To show them opportunities, offer solutions for their portfolio and help them control their risks.

What is the most important consideration when meeting customers?

In my view, the most important consideration is to build up confidence and work professionally. I want our customers to have the best possible support when they make decisions.

What makes you most enthusiastic about working for Vattenfall?

This business is new and I am part of a young and informal small team – made up of dedicated people. I can influence the development of custom-made solutions and make all services within Vattenfall Trading Services available for our external customers.
