Examples of Vattenfall work on curbing climate change

For Vattenfall, curbing climate change is one of the main strategic issues as well as an operational focus.

The energy industry is one of the sectors that emits most carbon dioxide and therefore has the responsibility for managing this problem – both in the short-term and the long-term perspectives. Vattenfall intends to cut specific emissions by half by 2030 compared to the 1990 base year, while maintaining or even increasing energy production levels. We have so far already achieved a 30% reduction in specific emissions, and we are now taking action to achieve the remaining 20%. Even though we are working hard to reach our goals, our success is partly dependent on outside factors such as technical developments, political decisions and the creation of a global price of carbon dioxide.

To achieve our goal and combat climate change, Vattenfall is focusing in particular on the following issues in its daily operations:
