The animation describes the storage of carbon dioxide in four steps:
1) The carbon dioxide is injected deep below the surface for permanent storage. 2) Carbon dioxide remains trapped in the reservoir due to an overlaying impermeable layer of rock, known as caprock. 3) Carbon dioxide dissolves into saline water in the reservoir. 4) Carbon dioxide may over the long-term mineralize into solid carbonates.
