Energy sources
There are many sources of energy. In each country, the energy sources available depend on the natural conditions.
The sun is the ultimate source
The sun’s rays can be captured and used in solar cells and panels. But its influence is far greater than that. It is the sun that makes life on Earth possible. Its energy is the ultimate source of nearly all the energy we have. The sun drives the water cycle. Under the sun’s heat, water evaporates, rising into the atmosphere as steam and falling again as rain – allowing us to generate electricity from flowing water. The sun’s energy is also stored in plants – and so in coal, oil and gas. The only energy sources that do not originate directly from the sun are uranium, the tides and heat from the Earth’s core.
