Power plants

Vattenfall’s energy balance

Compared to both the global and European production mix, Vattenfall utilises proportionally more CO2 neutral sources, mainly due to our investments in nuclear and hydro power. There is a need for plants that deliver base power at all times, and other plants where generation can be adjusted to respond to changes in demand – known as regulation power or balance power. There are also intermittent energy sources, such as wind power plants, which sometimes generate power, sometimes not. Finally, there is a need for peak power plants that can be utilised during extreme demand situations.

Wind power, biomass and waste corresponds to approximately 1% of Vattenfall’s total electricity generation.

Short term variations are due to variations in weather related factors, economic fluctuations etc.
