Myllykoski heat and power plant
Family-owned Myllykoski Paper was founded in 1892. With 900 employees, the plant produces 500,000 tonnes of paper annually – and is powered by its own heat and power plant.
In February 2001, Vattenfall Oy took over ownership of the Myllykoski heat and power plant.
The partnership agreement stipulates that Vattenfall will supply electricity and heat to the factory for 17 years. We began by modernising the heat and power plant connected to the mill.
Investing in efficiency
On taking over the heat power plant, we invested in new solid-fuel boilers that burn bark, drainage sludge, purchased biofuels and peat. As well as providing power to the mill, the plant produces district heating for the town of Anjalankoski. We also supply a nearby pigment factory with flue gas.
Protecting the environment
Vattenfall has significantly reduced waste emissions from the plant:
- sulphur dioxide and particle emissions cut by 90 percent
- nitrogen oxides cut by 75 per cent.
