Main advantages
- Availability for electricity production. In many regions, it is the dominant domestic energy source for electricity and heat. Coal is the most widely used energy source for electricity production in the world
- A very stable base load with a high utilisation factor
- Moderate investment costs
- The possibility of combining production of electricity and heat
Main disadvantages
- Has an impact on our climate, due to CO2 emissions
- Demands good cleaning equipment to avoid local and regional emissions of particles and acidifying gases
Did you know?
Since 1990, the specific emissions of carbon dioxide from Vattenfall´s operations, including acquired companies, have decreased by 36 per cent in electricity generation and 29 per cent in heat production.
