Tiefstack coal-fired thermal power plant

The Tiefstack thermal power plant supplies almost half of the heat for Vattenfall Europe Hamburg's district heating network.

Because of its proximity to the city – about 6 km east of central Hamburg – Tiefstack is equipped with very modern architectural features. And the plant maintains the highest environmental standards in Europe.

Combined heat and power

With two hard coal-fired boilers and one turbine, the base load plant efficiently produces electricity and district heating in a Combined Heat and Power process (CHP). The turbine can be operated either entirely or partly through a condensing operation, so the plant is able to work throughout the year and with changing technologies. Two oil and gas burning thermal boilers are also available to ensure that peak loads can be achieved.

Control systems

Highly modern control technology is used throughout the plant, automating many tasks and keeping operations safe and efficient.
