Siekierki heat and power plant
CHP Siekierki is the largest of Vattenfall’s five heat and electricity sources in and around Warsaw. Operational since 1961, it provides heat for the central and southern parts of the city.
A cogeneration plant, CHP Siekierki’s production efficiency is 85 per cent, compared to 52 per cent for conventional power plants. The resulting fuel savings reach almost 50 per cent, reducing emission levels significantly.
Doing more for the environment
As well as meeting all legal requirements, CHP Siekierki works hard to reduce adverse effects on the environment. A boiler modernisation programme has considerably cut sulphur emissions, and a highly efficient bag filter lowered dust emissions by 99.9 per cent.
Turning down the volume
CHP Siekierki has been involved in a noise-reduction programme as well as soil and water studies. One of the most interesting initiatives involved reducing the noise generated by two wagon tippers.
Re-using waste
The ash produced by CHP Siekierki is used to make a wide range of materials for the cement and mining industries.
