Netherlands

As of 1 July 2009, the Dutch energy company Nuon is a part of Vattenfall as Business Group Benelux, responsible for developing Vattenfall’s operations in the Benelux countries.

Vattenfall has been represented by a marketing and sales organis ation in the Netherlands since the deregulation of the Dutch energy market in 1998. In February 2009, Vattenfall and the Dutch energy company Nuon announced that they intended to join forces. Initially, Vattenfall has acquired 49 per cent of the Nuon shares. The remaining 51 per cent will be acquired over the coming six years under fixed terms. In June 2009, over 90 per cent of Nuon’s shareholders, mostly Dutch provinces and municipalities, accepted Vattenfall’s offer to acquire the shares of Nuon. The European Commission in June approved Vattenfall’s acquisition of Nuon Energy, on condition that all shares of Nuon Deutschland GmbH were divested. That meant that Nuon’s Sales organisation in Germany for electricity and gas were excluded from the deal. Nuon is Vattenfall’s third regional business group - Business Group Benelux. It is responsible for managing operations and driving growth in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
