Flue gas desulphurisation project in Romania
The Rovinari power plant in Romania has decided to install modern flue gas desulphurisation at four of its units.
Vattenfall Power Consultant, International Division, is helping the Rovinari plant to achieve low emission levels in accordance with EU regulations.
Reducing emissions
The desulphurisation system will reduce emissions drastically and result in waste products that can actually be used. The project includes planning and building facilities for handling end products and waste, for example plaster that can be used as building material. Vattenfall Power Consultant has been involved in the project since 2005. The work has included pre-studies and feasibility studies, assessment of environmental impact, financial analysis, staff training and project planning. We will also perform tender evaluation, negotiate and finalise contract according to international policies and rules.
Achieving environmental goals
The Rovinari plant is one of the major power plants in Romania. The plant is fired by lignite with support of natural gas and also with heavy fuel oil as start fuel. The new flue gas desulphurisation plants that will help Rovinari fulfil emission regulations within the EU will be completely ready in 2013.
