Nairobi-Mombasa Transmission line feasibility study
The Government of Kenya intends to increase the power transmission capacity between coastal town of Mombasa and Nairobi through the construction of a high voltage transmission line.
The Government has received a credit from Agence Francaise de Développement for the purpose of undertaking a study to determine the feasibility of constructing the line. The proposed transmission line consists of approximately 500 km in route length and substations at both ends of the line.
Vattenfall Power Consultant is involved in several aspects of the project:
- Technical feasibility and project design
- Economic and financial evaluation
- Environmental and social impact assessment.
It is expected that the power transfers from Mombasa to Nairobi will increase sharply following the implementation of various generation projects in the coast region of Mombasa. For environmental and economic reasons, most of the thermal generation will be installed in the coastal area and particularly in Mombasa.
