Training programme
Management of Hydro Power Development and Use
The advanced international training programme is a mixture of lectures, seminars, case studies and study visits. The Management of Hydro Power Development and Use training programme gives participants insight into the latest trends and techniques in the field. It is designed to increase overall knowledge of hydropower development, and covers the recommendations made in the World Commission of Dams report from 2000.
The programme is run by Vattenfall Power Consultant (formerly known as SwedPower) in cooperation with Sweco International as well as with experienced engineers and experts from the Swedish power utilities, consultants and manufacturing companies and relevant authorities and Non Government Organisations.
It is sponsored by Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
Length
Part 1, four weeks in Stockholm, Sweden, October 5 -November 2, 2008. Part 2, one week, takes place between March 19-27, 2009 in a country to be announced.

Programme Content – Part I
- Introduction to energy planning, energy master plans and hydropower feasibility studies
- Technical aspects: electricity distribution, protection, O&M, rehabilitation, decommissioning
- Energy efficiency, energy savings and unconventional energy-generation technologies
- WCD and related tools: Impact assessment – participatory processes, socio-environmental studies and programmes, other assessment methods – life-cycle assessment (LCA), multi-criteria analysis (MCA) etc.
- Managing a hydropower business
Programme Content – Part II
Two-week seminar that takes place somewhere in the world
outside of Sweden. Participants shall produce a Plan of Action for
his/her own Change Project (presented during Part I in Sweden).
Complementary lectures and local study visits.
