Wind projects

We are investigating the possibility of building more wind power in the Nordic countries, in Central Europe, in Benelux and in the United Kingdom, both offshore and onshore.

Planning, gaining permission for and building a wind farm is a long process in all the countries where we operate. The planning always takes place in close dialogue and consultation with local authorities and local residents as well as other interested parties that are affected.

Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm

The Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm is currently being built in the Irish Sea, 10km off Barrow-In-Furness. On completion the wind farm will comprise 30 RePower 5M wind turbines with the capacity of 150 megawatts and expected to produce around 500 gigawatt hours of electricity every year.

Offshore construction commenced in May 2010. Construction and commissioning work will continue until the end of 2011.

DanTysk Offshore Wind Farm

The wind farm will be located in the German Bight, 69 km west of Sylt and within the German EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone).

Construction will start in 2011-2012. On completion, the wind farm will have 80 turbines with a capacity of 288 MW which is sufficient to supply approximately 500,000 homes with electricity.

The project is a joint venture between Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München.

East Anglia Offshore Wind Farm

This wind project is created for the development of Zone 5 of the British Crown Estate's Round Three Process. The Zone is located 14 km off the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk and covers approximately 6000 km2.

We will work with stakeholders to realise the full potential of the zone, with initial studies identifying a target capacity of up to 7200 MW, which could provide enough energy for the equivalent annual needs of over 5 million homes.

The project is a joint venture between Vattenfall and ScottishPower Renewables.

Forsmark Wind Farm

This onshore project is situated next to the lake Biotestsjön, very close to the Swedish nuclear power plant in Forsmark.

At a maximum 15 wind turbines are planned, which will provide enough energy for about 20, 000 homes.

National and international experts are appointed to study the sea eagles in this area adding valuable knowledge about the coexistence between wind power and sea eagles.

Klim Wind Farm

Klim Wind Farm is the largest onshore project in Denmark. 72 MW on one of the best sites with a very high wind factor. The project will be based on 24 Vestas V90 3.0 MW turbines. The project will dismantle 39 old Vattenfall wind turbines in the area as part of the Danish Repowering program.

Zuidlob Wind Farm

In the most southern part of the municipality of Zeewolde in the province of Flevoland, The Netherlands, we are developing the Zuidlob wind farm together with 65 farmers.

The wind farm will consist of 36 turbines, each about 3 MW, which can provide approximately 75,000 households with electricity. In the current planning, the construction of the wind farm will start in 2011 and be finalized in the beginning of 2013.
