Back office analyst, Vattenfall Trading Services in Stockholm, Sweden

Please describe in short what you are working with

Since December 2008 I am working at Vattenfall Trading Services (VTS) in Stockholm as a back office analyst. VTS is a multi commodity trading company with headquarters in Hamburg and local offices in Warsaw, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

How did you join Vattenfall?

My employment at Vattenfall AB started in august 2007 with a project employment at the Customer Ombudsman as a part of the Young Academic programme. Since my graduation in 2006 I have been working in the customer relations field and as of now I am focusing more on economy and finance.

How would you describe your typical day at work?

The area of business at the Finance department of VTS is mainly focused on the financial market of power exchange and its derivative contracts. The Back Office department is responsible for transaction administration, meaning the whole process from a transaction is done until it is invoiced. My typical day at work is so far learning-by-doing, for example I am in the process of learning the main functions and routines of our work. The work is varied and includes a lot of new processes that I need to learn and understand. Last week I attended a two-day course in Oslo arranged by NordPool where we learned more about the physical and financial energy exchange market.

What do you think is the benefit of working at Vattenfall?

Even though I have been working in the energy business for two years now, I still find this market interesting and challenging due to its complexity. There are so many areas one can work in within the energy business; I guess that is why some people stay for 50 years at Vattenfall. I do not know for sure if my future will bring so many years of prosperity within Vattenfall. But what I am sure of, through my experiences, is that Vattenfall is a company that has caught my interest and is an employer that takes care of my interests too.
