In Sweden alone Vattenfall has owned or designed more than 15 000 km of 400 kV and 220 kV and more than 11 000 km of 132 kV transmission lines, 5 HVDC interconnections with neighbouring countries. In the early 1950s Vattenfall was the first in the world succeeding to transmit power at 400 kV HVAC. Vattenfall was also in the 50’s the developer and owner of the world’s first HVDC link, Swedish mainland to Gotland.
Since then, we have been involved in just about every major HVDC link around the world. Vattenfall as a major actor in the Nordic countries, participates in one of the first deregulated markets with a common power trading market, NordPool.
