Our business

Vattenfall operates a commercial energy business attempting to be among the leaders in developing environmentally sustainable energy production.

Our vision is to develop a sustainable, diversified European energy portfolio with long-term increased profits and significant growth opportunities.

Vattenfall currently produces electricity and heat from six energy sources, giving the company a flexible and well diversified business. With three main products – electricity, heat and gas – we focus on three main markets - the Nordic countries, Germany and the Netherlands. Aside from Vattenfall’s three main markets, the UK and France represent growth markets, primarily in wind and hydro power, respectively.

In the present business-led organisational structure, the previous geographical structure has been replaced by operating segments.

As of 1 November 2012 there are two operating segments: Generation, and Distribution and Sales.

The Generation segment comprises four Business Divisions: BD Sustainable Asset Development, BD Production, BD Nuclear and BD Asset Optimisation and Trading.

The Distribution and Sales segment comprises BD Distribution and Sales
