Mariola Penno - Szypowska

"Vattenfall plays an active role in world development. Our company supports the sustainable development of society and the word “sustainable” is a key word here," says Mariola Penno-Szypowska, Manager of the Nearshoring Team, Vattenfall Business Services in Poland.

What do your duties consist of?

In 1996 I started to work for GZE, in Gliwice. During more than 13 years I have had a variety of duties. Now I am in charge of the Nearshoring Team, a group of 50 IT developers, working for Vattenfall companies in Germany and Sweden.

What makes you most enthusiastic about working for Vattenfall?

Vattenfall plays an active role in world development. Our company supports the sustainable development of society and the word “sustainable” is a key word here.
Supporting means involvement and commitment to local, country, European and world initiatives, such as combat climate change, environmental protection or technological progress. For example in Poland, Vattenfall takes care of storks and their nests.

What do you enjoy most in your work?

As I rather work with people than with machines, I really appreciate that me and my colleagues are working very well together. The nice atmosphere and striving to make things better is what I enjoy most in my work.

What do you consider most important for ensuring that your work will produce good results?

 I do not think there is a recipe for good results or success.
The core values within Vattenfall, are - openness, accountability and effectiveness. These values are the guidelines for our daily work.
I would also like to add some others, that I believe are of the great significance: communication, balance and integrity.
Communication as it is very important to have the same understanding, meaning and acceptance. When you look into the Vattenfall strategic ambitions, you will find a kind of balance there. Keeping balance in our long perspective work is especially important. Integrity pays back as confidence of your partners, customers, boss, colleagues and subordinates. 

What do you think is the great benefit of working at Vattenfall?

Vattenfall is a big, multinational company, acting in several European countries. This gives us an opportunity to work in a multicultural environment. I have had a chance to participate in many international projects and other activities. It was an exceptional opportunity for me to observe cultural differences as well as similarities. It was also a challenge to develop myself to be able to understand other people, communicate and successfully work with them. Generally, Vattenfall supports its employees with technical and personal trainings. There is no doubt, when working for Vattenfall you develop yourself.
