Hydro
Of all the renewable energy resources at Vattenfall’s disposal, hydro power is the largest.
It’s all in our name: Vattenfall is Swedish for waterfall.
Main advantages
- Renewable
- No direct effects on climate
- An effective stable base production, and a controlled balance between production and specific demand
Main disadvantages
- Relies on natural conditions and has no constant availability (years with very little rain will affect availability)
- Has high investment costs
- Requires the construction of reservoirs, dams and power plants, which affect the landscape and have an impact on biological diversity
