Energy Consulting – a successful bus tour of Germany
Furniture retailer Möbel Walther cuts energy costs by educating employees.
Vattenfall helped furniture retailer Möbel Walther to save money and energy using a three-step action programme, which included an Energy Consulting bus tour of Germany.
Möbel Walther sells furniture in 26 stores nationwide, each store being typically 4,000m2 in size. Due to rising energy costs, the company decided to move energy awareness higher up the agenda. Together with the customer Vattenfall’s energy service team developed an action programme, and the energy-saving project was launched immediately.
The programme consisted of three steps:
Step 1: The electricity consumption of every location was analysed, benchmarks were established and the potential for savings was identified.
Step 2: At a conference with the customer’s technicians, Vattenfall’s energy service team gave expert advice on how to save energy at each location. Furthermore, the personnel were provided with a special energy-saving package containing measuring equipment and other helpful tools and guidelines.
Step 3: Finally, the bus tour of Germany visited every single store for an energy awareness day. The Energy Consulting bus was redesigned to house an exhibition to help raise the skills level of all Möbel Walther's employees in the area of energy conservation. Each employee received an action plan with instructions. In the stores, all relevant technical appliances were checked for their energy-saving potential in collaboration with the customer’s technicians.
Publicity relating to the awareness days was made visible to the public in the stores, which generated goodwill.
The energy-saving action programme resulted in energy savings, with electricity costs being cut by an impressive 8 per cent.
