Why does Vattenfall need a Code of Conduct for Suppliers?
Vattenfall considers it as our task and our responsibility to work towards developing energy solutions that accord with sustainable development in society. To show our responsibility throughout the entire value chain of our operations, we also need to include our suppliers. Vattenfall’s procurement, wants to show the suppliers what we expect from them, for example in environmental and ethical aspects.
The Code of Conduct for Suppliers should work as a platform to secure the right behaviour for sustainable and trustful relationships between Vattenfall and its suppliers. The purpose of the Code is to create awareness and influence the suppliers to achieve improvement in sustainability aspects, and also for them to influence their sub-suppliers.

What is Vattenfall’s Code of Conduct for Suppliers based on?
The Code of Conduct for Suppliers is based on the UN Global Compact principles. The UN Global Compact is a UN initiative that was started by UN’s secretary-general Kofi Annan in 1999, where the business community of the world is asked to subscribe to ten principles on responsibility. The principles cover human rights, labour standards, environment and anti-corruption. For more info see: http://www.unglobalcompact.org
Since Vattenfall is one of the more than 5.000 companies that have subscribed to the UN Global Compact, it is natural for us to ask our suppliers to also accept and comply with these principles.
