European Athletics Championships 2006

The European Championships have now come to a close, and we want to thank you for celebrating them with us!

From 6 to 13 August, Europe’s leading athletics stars were all in Gothenburg competing in the European Championships. Vattenfall was proud to serve as the official sponsor of one of the biggest events held in Sweden in the past ten years – the European Athletics Championships 2006.

The Vattenfall sponsorship ambitions cover the areas sport, cultural, humanitarian and environmental concerns. Our vision is to be a leading European energy company, and by sponsoring the European Athletics Championships 2006, we wanted to support an ambitious, cross-border European event.

Celebration in Gothenburg

Visitors to Gothenburg certainly knew that the European Athletics Championships were taking place. For eight days the stars competed for a coveted place on the winners’ podium at Ullevi Stadium, and the city’s streets were teeming with activity. With some of the world’s most prominent athletes and the biggest collection of enthusiasts ever assembled, each day was a memorable one for Sweden.

Racing towards the championships

We organised a great many activities at Bältesspännarparket on Kungsportsavenyn! You could challenge the European Master in the 60 metre sprint on our sprint track. Or you could learn about how much energy you actually generate when you practise sport. And these are just two examples of the activities we arranged.
