What is GRI?
The GRI is a multi-stakeholder process and independent institution whose mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. Started in 1997, GRI became independent in 2002, and is an official collaborative centre of the United Nations Environment Programme, working in cooperation with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s Global Compact.

Sustainability reporting guidelines
These guidelines are for voluntary use by organisations for reporting on the environmental, social and economic dimensions of their activities, products and services. The GRI incorporates active participation of business, accountancy, investment, environmental, human rights, research and labour organisations from around the world. The G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines are the world’s most widely accepted standard for sustainability reporting, with more than 1000 companies using the guidelines worldwide.
