Climate services

The impacts of climate change affect the business environment in which our clients operate in both the short and the long term. Our ambition is to create awareness of the challenges as well as the opportunities arising from this changing business environment.

We assist our clients to identify suitable climate solutions that meet their specific needs. The climate experts at Vattenfall Power Consultant have experience in carbon project development, carbon finance, climate policy advisory services, carbon footprint analyses and corporate climate strategies. Our technical and engineering expertise helps us to understand the needs of our clients in the power and industrial sectors. We see opportunities and are capable of identifying suitable solutions.

We have a dedicated team for greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, including commercialisation of carbon credits. This includes Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) projects within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol. We work closely with the Vattenfall Carbon Fund, which assists the Electricity and Heat Generation Business Units to source emission reductions for compliance under the Kyoto Protocol and the EU Emission Trading Scheme.

In this context, we liaise directly with CDM/JI projects owners without involving other carbon market actors, resulting in more cost-effective operations that benefit both the project owners and the Vattenfall Group. Our projects are mainly within the power sector, but also in agriculture and industry. All projects comply with our corporate sustainable development criteria.

Services include:

  • Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) project development
  • Facilitate the purchase of emission reductions for the Vattenfall Carbon Fund and other buyers
  • Climate policy advisory services and Corporate climate strategies
  • Carbon footprint and abatement strategies
  • Communication strategies, including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  • Technical Due Diligence and Feasibility Studies of Carbon Projects
