Boguslaw Branicki

"An openness for innovations and an international dimension of the business are benefits of working at Vattenfall" says Boguslaw Banicki who is working at Vattenfall Heat in Germany.

For how long have you been working at Vattenfall?

I started at HEW (Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke AG) in Hamburg in May 1990. So I have worked at HEW and Vattenfall for more than 18 years.

Please describe in short what you are working with

My main job has always been the organisation of supply and disposal of several bulk materials for the power plants and incineration plants in Hamburg. First of all it means that I purchase proper products for flue gas cleaning, for water treatment and also some special services for the utilisation or disposal of by-products like fly ashes, slag, gypsum and sludge. Secondly it’s also a part of my job to organise and monitor the quality control system for the by-products, because most of them are used as raw materials for the building industry and have to meet special quality criteria.

Sometimes there are some extra projects as well, for example the currently running coordination of the implementation of the European REACH regulation for chemicals at Vattenfall Europe. This issue will be a point of interest to me for at least the next two years.

How would you describe your typical day at work?

A typical daily activity in my job is to manage a number of different tasks in a parallel way. Maybe it sometimes seems to be very chaotic but it is common to be "disturbed" during the preparation of a new contract with telephone calls, very urgent e-mails etc. That means that the task priorities have to be checked continuously.

What do you enjoy most in your work?

The variety of tasks, sometimes with a certain necessity for improvisation, is surely enjoyable. The more and more intensive cooperation within the Vattenfall group is also an extra challenge and an opportunity to get a new point of view for old things.

What do you think is the benefit of working at Vattenfall?

First of all that it is a very interesting and so far secure job at one of the biggest utility companies in Europe. An openness for innovations and an international dimension of the business are further benefits.

Do you feel that you can develop your career within Vattenfall?

That could be possible if I were to get new tasks. In the case of my present field of work the opportunities for that are not very promising.

What advice would you give someone considering applying to Vattenfall?

First of all - and independent of the suitable graduation for the job - try to present what you are looking for in a simple and concise way. And especially when it comes to Vattenfall: be multilingual!
